Description
Red deer are one the largest of the deer family. They are native to Europe, central and western Asia, and the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, but have also been introduced into Australia, New Zealand, northern America, Canada and the Andes. As with most other species of deer only the males have antlers, growing them in spring for the autumnal mating season and then shedding them during winter. Antlers differ to horns in that they are an extension of the skull and a single structure of bone.
