Description
This large grey crane has a featherless red head with a grey crown. They are found across tropical northern Australia, and as far south as central New South Wales and western Victoria. They live in large open wetlands, grassy plains and estuaries.
However, brolgas are best known for their elaborate courtship dance, leaping up to a metre in the air with wings outstretched followed by stretching their necks, bobbing and bowing their heads.
