Description
Echidnas are 30-45cm long and weigh 2-5kg, Tasmanian animals tend to be larger than their Australian mainland counterparts.
The familiar spines on their backs are actually modified hairs, made from the protein keratin. Insulation is provided by fur between the spines, which ranges in colour from honey to a dark red-brown. In order to keep them warm in the colder winters, the fur of the Tasmanian subspecies is thicker, longer and often conceals their spines.
Price is per week of loan.
